Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki Puts All Four Riders Inside the Top 10
CORONA, Calif. (May 21, 2017) – Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki started the Pro Motocross season on a good note with all of its riders producing top 10 results, including Adam Cianciarulo and Austin Forkner earning moto podium finishes. Cianciarulo led the way with fourth overall (2-8), while Forkner was just behind him in fifth overall (11-2). Joey Savatgy also rode up front on his way to seventh overall (7-7) and Justin Hill came in eighth overall with an 8-9 moto result.
Finishing just behind his teammate in fifth overall and also putting in a stellar ride was Forkner. The first moto really tested his perseverance after being forced to come into the mechanics area on the opening lap and fix something on the bike. He went out dead last and worked his way up to 11th on a hard and rutted track. Despite putting a huge effort into Moto 1, Forkner was a man on a mission in Moto 2 where he worked his way from seventh to second.
“It was unfortunate to have an issue in the first moto, but I’m hoping I was still able to showcase my speed and endurance throughout the day,” said Forkner. “We’ve worked really hard to be able to run up front and I think with a better start I could be challenging for the win.”
Savatgy’s start in the opening moto wasn’t what he was hoping for, and after coming around 13th on the first lap he put his head down and started to make a charge. Even with a tough track, he was able to work his way up to seventh. Savatgy learned from his Moto 1 start and nearly grabbed the holeshot in Moto 2. He rode steady throughout the moto to eventually finish seventh for seventh overall.
“Today wasn’t the finish I was hoping for, but the conditions were tough and I know we can build off this race,” said Savatgy. “We’re looking at the long term and there are plenty more motos to go.”
Hill’s eighth-place overall finish was a solid showing after moving forward in both motos. Starting in 10thin Moto 1, he worked around other riders to eventually finish eighth. In the second moto, Hill had to overcome a 19th place start and would still make it into the top-10 for ninth. It was a solid result for the recently crowned Western Regional Supercross Champion.
“This track is always a tough circuit for the opening round, so to get out of here healthy and with a top-10, we’ll take it,” said Hill. “I know we can do better and I’m really looking forward to racing at Glen Helen this weekend with the big jumps and certain fast sections.”
