This month, Lezyne Ambassador Danny MacAskill made the long journey to Taiwan for the first time to shoot his latest video project and visit Lezyne’s Taichung factory. Having never been to Taiwan before, Danny found Taichung to have an abundance of obstacles to use in this latest video project. Danny also visited Lezyne’s Taichung facility where he met with Lezyne CEO Micki Kozuschek to see where his MacAskill Signature Series tools and pumps are made. After five short days, the video production was finished, and Danny headed home, but he plans to return in the future to see more of the island.

Lezyne Sheds Some Light on LED Testing With New Video

San Luis Obispo – Performance LED Lights are more than just your typical hardware store flashlight. Lezyne is now entering its third year of LED development and production. To help consumers better understand how LED lights are developed and tested, Lezyne produced this video which gives an inside view of what is involved.

Nico is a rally car racing champion on top of being the most successful male mountain biker of all times. Nico now embarks on the next phase of his competitive life. This time, in the pursuit of balance.

Nico will always be Nico, the most successful male mountain bike racer of all time. But today, if you meet him, you feel The Alien has transformed into something else. Still fast as only a few can be.

Always meticulous, sensible and incredibly precise in his equipment choices, Nico is no easy customer.

Nested between deep gorges and high peaks, it’s hard to imagine the town of Peillon is only a few kilometers from Nice and the Mediterranean Sea.

A quick visit of the old town becomes an opportunity to display unearthly bike handling skills.

“Riding here, you either become good, or break yourself really bad”. Not hard to believe Nico, when rocks are flying and it’s hard to decide whether going too fast or too slow will yield the most consequences.

Peillon basks in the golden light of an early spring afternoon. When you are testing with Nico, days are long and detailed.

An hour of twisty highway and a country later, we are in San Romolo. This is home to hard, long and physical DH and Enduro tracks. This is where Nico comes to decide what’s good and what’s not.

The plan mandates a tall order of runs on one of the most physical Enduro trails around. Nico rides different wheels back to back. When Nico is around, mountain biking becomes a science.

The casual look and relaxed setup are deceiving to the level of precision and product feedback.

When Nico follows, it’s not easy to stay in your comfort zone. SRAM’s BlackBox program manager Jon Cancellier uses every moment to gather important feedback for Nico’s racing season.

Late in the day we move to a rough downhill trail for a final round of pictures. Nico proclaims he doesn’t feel it’s the right trail for the “little bike”, and then proceeds to make our jaws drop with his line choices and bike handling wizardry.

To win might not be Nico’s number one priority today, but he will definitely make everything in his faculty to be damn close to the top. The day hardly ends when Nico is around. Luckily, he is the one ordering the next round of beers.

California is shorter but equally aggressive, and the depth of the field seems to increase each year. As the riders dish it out, we devour the details of each stage through a plethora of live and post-race coverage options. Amen for May and for stage racing, for even though the majority of cyclists may never race, this is the stuff from which dreams are made.

CycleOps has 4 teams actively animating the Giro (Vacansoleil-DCM, Bardiani Valvole-CSF Inox, Androni Giocattoli and Colombia), and Vacansoleil-DCM will be making their debut in the Tour of California, so we have plenty to be excited about.

Just a few highlights of the first 5 stages include Willem Wauters (Vacansoleil-DCM) taking both the KOM and the Combativity jerseys after stage 3, Enrico Battaglin (Bardiani) taking the win in stage 4 with Fabio Felline (Androni) coming in a close 2nd, and Marco Marcato (Vacansoleil-DCM) and Wauters taking the Intermediate Sprint Classification and Combativity jerseys in stage 4. We don’t expect the teams to keep this up for every stage, but it’s been a fantastic start. Check back soon as well be analyzing data of key stages and sections in the coming days.

For the Tour of California, we’re partnering with our friends at Skratch Labs in the Joes vs. Pros challenge, where two ‘Joe’ riders will ride each stage prior to the pro race, and then we’ll compare the data between the Joes and the Pros. With Allen Lim interpreting the data, we’ll have all sorts of insights for you on how all of us Joes measure up to the real deal. And if that weren’t enough, this comes on the heels of a HUGE weekend in triathlon which saw a handful of CycleOps athletes throw down some serious power and walk away with some hardware. One of the hardest-working and nicest athletes out there, Meredith Kessler took the 70.3 US Pro Championship title with the win in St. George, Heather Wurtele took home an impressive 3rd, and Lesley Paterson, Sarah Piampiano, Emma-Kate Lidbury and Trevor Wurtele had very solid races in the most stacked field outside of Vegas to finish 6th, 8th, 9th and 10th, respectively.

Meanwhile, ‘Mr. Three-peat’ Jesse Thomas was busy putting out 330 watts for 2+ hours en route to taking his 3rd consecutive Wildflower win, with Joe Gambles finishing close behind in 3rd and Matt Lieto taking 7th. Check out Jesse’s power file here to see what it takes to set you up for the win in Wildflower.

And last but definitely not least, Luke Bell smashed the bike course, taking the lead and holding it through the marathon, to take the title at Ironman Australia. Luke is a great guy and has won several 70.3 titles, so it was super to see him take his first Ironman victory. Check out this short bike video review with some good shots of Luke here.

We couldn’t be more proud of our teams and our athletes, and can’t wait to continue to follow them – throughout May and the rest of the season. For with each effort and result comes a story, which we’ll in turn interpret and visualize during our own training.
